Proviron belongs to the group of androgens. Its use can cause side effects such as:
- Increase in skin fat accompanied by inflammatory manifestations;
- Increased hair density on the body and face;
- Hair loss on the head (if genetically predisposed).
A similar effect occurs in men taking the drug. Their manifestations will most likely increase with increasing doses of the drug. It is also important to note that Proviron is a derivative of DHT and medications such as Finasteride, Proscar or Dutasteride may not reduce its androgenic effects.
Although Proviron has all androgenic side effects, estrogen expression is not typical. The substance is an active aromatase inhibitor and acts as an antiestrogen in the body, reducing the side effects of other compounds thanks to the mechanism of reducing total estrogen levels in the circulating plasma. Due to its powerful androgenic nature and anti-estrogenic potential, Proviron has been used in medicine to treat gynecomastia and breast cancer following numerous studies.
Women take Proviron
Proviron use is not recommended for women as the drug can cause virilization manifestations. Virilization is the development of masculine traits that are unusual for a woman’s body.
Effects on the liver
Proviron is not C-17 alpha-alkylated, but methylated on the first carbon atom. Due to this structure, the substance entering the body does not cause a hepatotoxic effect, which is confirmed by a number of studies. Therefore, taking Proviron does not adversely affect the liver.
However, the drug has a negative effect on the cardiovascular system. When examining this effect, it was established with certainty that taking Proviron 100 mg daily for 6 months shows a significant negative effect on cholesterol levels: the proportion of LDL (bad cholesterol) increases to 65%, while HDL. (Good cholesterol) is reduced to 35%.
There is also speculation that Proviron might inhibit the production of endogenous natural testosterone, although such an effect is extremely small. For example, a daily dose of 150 mg or less does not inhibit natural testosterone, but higher concentrations (above 300 mg) can lower its levels.
Benefits of the drug
Proviron is not used in courses. As previously mentioned, this is an optimal low-level anabolic excipient, popular for its ability to minimize the effects of estrogen on the body. This makes the drug an indispensable addition to anabolic cycles.
Also, the advantage of Proviron is its ability to give the body a “dense” appearance. This is one of the main reasons for its frequent use, along with its anti-estrogenic properties and powerful androgen.
Sometimes Proviron is used after a cycle to provide a therapeutic effect, namely to lower estrogen levels and increase fertility. Although for post cycle therapy (PCT) there are much more potent compounds. In cases where there is even a small risk of endogenous testosterone inhibition, it is recommended to refrain from using Proviron for PCT purposes. When restoring the natural level of the body’s own testosterone, it is important to avoid every little danger.
